Locations

Game takes place in Fuyuki City, Japan. It is separated into two sections by the river Mion that can be considered two towns, Shinto and Miyama City, which are the new and old sections of city respectively. While not based directly on a real city, many of the locations are based on those located in Kobe. The distance between Fuyuki City and Misaki Town is equivalent to the distance of Kantō and Kyushu, with the prologue of Fate/Grand Order confirming that Fuyuki is actually located on the island of Kyushu in somewhere in Kumamoto Prefecture.

Miyama Town

Miyama Town is the suburban area of Fuyuki that contains old houses and traditional buildings. It can be split into two main parts, the traditional Japanese houses district and the foreigners' houses district. The road to Homurahara Academy, where the protagonist studies, is set between the two districts.

Emiya residence

The Emiya residence is the home of Shirou Emiya and Kiritsugu Emiya. Located on the northern end (where the Japanese style houses are) of Miyama Town.

It is a large, old building located on northern end of Miyama, and a Japanese-style building with a classical elegance befitting the area. Even within the old style of Miyama, it is of a rare style, and it can be considered a rare example of architectural history. Though it was large and previously unused, its history made it so it was never torn down even in its degradation and having taken up a large amount of space in an area of civic planning.

Emiya residence exterior

It has a very old storehouse built on the edge of the yard, which utilizes a key cast in an ancient style far different from the modern cylindrical kind utilized in the rest of the estate. The door is old and rusty, constantly creaking as it opens. While the rest of the house is unsuited to be a magus' workshop, the storehouse is suitable enough for a makeshift area for magi to work. The house is too open, letting magical energy flow about freely, so the closed nature is suitable as long as a magic circle can be established. Irisviel von Einzbern utilized it in the Fourth Grail War, leaving the Magic Circle that is later used to summon Saber, and Shirou utilizes it for his daily meditation and practice. He stores broken appliances and failures in projection magecraft. He has a special love for it, and often spends time fixing items within.

The Emiya Residence's Barrier, constructed by Kiritsugu, surrounds the property, warning the residents about individuals with malicious intentions entering its perimeter through a ringing bell on the ceiling. It is very well made, and unlike the one set on the Tohsaka residence, it is possible to feel a human quality from it. It possesses neither offensive nor defensive capabilities, but its detection powers are excellent. It is able to warn of a Servant's frontal assault, but Caster is able to easily disable it and True Assassin can sneak in without trouble.

Tohsaka residence

Tohsaka Mansion

The Tohsaka residence is located on the southern end where the western style houses are. Known throughout the neighbourhood for being a haunted house. No, it is not haunted.

In the second grail war, the evocation site of the Grail was held at Tohsaka mansion.

Homurahara Academy

Homurahara Academy is the local high school.

Mount Enzou

Ryuudou Temple. It is a mountain temple on the outskirts of Miyama, like the name suggested it is owned by Ryuudou family and the current head of the temple is led by Issei Ryuudou and Reikan Ryuudou's father.

40 minute dash from Emiya residence. Acts as the keystone of the Fuyuki leylines. Can be said to be the heart of the Fuyuki spiritual grounds. Built on top of a fallen leyline.

Ryuudou Temple

As the name suggests, it is the very heart of the city that functions as the keystone of Fuyuki's leylines. It has a mountainside lake that is one of the four possible places for the Holy Grail to manifest. The Greater Grail resides within an enormous cavern beneath the temple, and during the Heaven's Feel scenario, the giant cave-in causes them to take several years to recover. The reason for the collapse was not Angra Mainyu's disappearance, but instead Rin Tohsaka utilizing the Jeweled Sword of Zelretch with no restraint. It can be said Issei was correct in his assumptions about her, truly making him worthy as the Temple's successor for recognizing her as an enemy of Buddhism.

Souichirou Kuzuki was living amongst the monks and the Ryuudou family. In the fifth Grail War, Souichirou rescued Caster and allowed her to stay in the temple. Caster used the temple as her workshop and used the mountain gate to summon Assasssin as the guardian.

Einzbern Castle

The castle-villa found at the forest in the outskirts of Fuyuki City, it was brought from the Einzbern homeland to serve as a base for the Masters of the family during the Heaven’s Feel rituals. At the same time, it is the workshop of Illyasviel von Einzbern. It was build to look like a “コ” when viewed from above. In Fate/zero, Kiritsugu Emiya and Irisviel von Einzbern, along with the other members of the Einzbern faction utilize the castle as their headquarters for at least part of the fourth Heaven's Feel.

Einzbern Castle

Four hours from the entrance of the forest by foot. The castle’s defenses are perfect: a spiritual defensive wall activates itself by Illyasviel's order whenever intruders approach. Perfect anti-spiritual processes are also performed so that the spirits inside the Einzbern forest do not enter.

The existence of the castle is not publicly known, but it seems that people who get lost at the forest have found their way into it by chance in the past.

The interior decoration is outrageously luxurious. Although it hasn’t been used for over 10 years, there is wine cellar that can be accessed from a passage at left area from the lobby. The courtyard, which is managed by Sella, is the coldest area inside the castle and, as per Illya’s desires, it has a flowerbed installed. As this is just a stronghold for the Holy Grail War, it is quite frugal for the Einzbern’s standards.

Einzbern Forest

The virgin forest, or rather mountain range, found at the outskirts of Fuyuki city. About 30 kilometers to the west of Fuyuki’s urban area. It is possible to reach the entrance of the forest after a one-hour run of car in the highway that comes out from Miyamacho and then a one kilometer walk through the grove. One hour drive by taxi from Shinto.

Einzbern Forest

Not only the name in the registration is of unknown substance, but it also became a privately-owned land of an uncertain foreign enterprise. Because the landowners (the Einzbern) refuse to develop the area, it turned into a literal sea of trees. Since the trees extend themselves to cover the sunlight coming from above, it is impossible to see more than 10 meters ahead inside the forest. Amidst all of it, there is a clearing of about 40 meters diameter with a square and some ruins.

Due of a lack of courage to set a stronghold in the middle of the Tohsaka territory, Jubstacheit von Einzbern purchased the closest land to Fuyuki with a leyline at the eve of the Third Holy Grail War. The Einzbern circled the forest with a bounded field to isolate it from the outside world and had one of the castles from the Einzbern homeland dismantled and then rebuild in the middle of it. The Tohsaka house earnestly engaged in negotiations for the concealment of the construction.

The large bounded field stretched throughout the area is to detect intruders and so long their presence and magical energy are not suppressed they can be easily discovered. The level reaction that the bounded field gives to the intruder can be adjusted accordingly with the thoughts of Illyasviel. Furthermore, once in the inner sections it is possible to adjust the area-of-effect in order to support allied parties in combat.
